14 Top Japanese Roasters to Debut in Hong Kong at MIJ Coffee Journey

Hong Kong’s coffee scene is set for a major cultural exchange this November as the newly opened AIRSIDE mall in Kai Tak hosts the first-ever “MIJ Coffee Journey” from November 26 to 29. Bringing together 14 of Japan’s most celebrated independent roasters and cafes—seven of which are making their Hong Kong debut—alongside 11 of the city’s finest local specialty brands, the event promises a deep dive into the artistry of Japanese and Hong Kong coffee culture.

Unprecedented Japanese Lineup Arrives in Kai Tak

The festival’s core draw is its stellar roster. Niigata’s Days Coffee, led by 2025 Japanese Brewers Cup Champion Yosuke Yamaguchi, will serve exclusive pour-overs. Osaka viral sensation LiLo Coffee, a mainstay on the Asia Top 50 list, brings its globally recognized craft. Fukuoka legend COFFEE COUNTY adds heavyweight credibility, while first-time visitors to Hong Kong include Because Coffee (Tokyo), overseen by a national AeroPress Champion, and Sym( ) Coffee (Fukuoka), headed by world latte art medalist Asaya Ishibashi. Roasters from Kyoto, Hyogo, and Ginza complete the comprehensive tasting experience.

Exclusive Blends and Local Fusions

Many participating roasters have created unique offerings specifically for the Hong Kong audience. LiLo Coffee developed limited single-origin blends inspired by local classics: a bright take on “Salted Lemon Soda” (鹹檸七) and a tropical “Yong He Mango Pomelo” (楊枝甘露) roast. Kyoto’s About Us Coffee collaborated with MIJ Market to produce “Silk of Water,” a vibrant lychee and white wine-infused exclusive bean. These limited drops, alongside specials from Chap Chap, Ignis Coffee, and X Coffee GINZA, provide a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

A Hub for Local Talent and Free Tasting

The entire 4/F level serves as a free-admission zone dedicated to local crafts. NATIONS COFFEE will feature beans from Square Mile Roasters, the world-renowned London house founded by World Barista Champion James Hoffmann. Susurro Coffee Roastery offers delicate micro-lot hand-pours for discerning palates. Social enterprise Guang Coffee partners with a Chinese medicine practitioner for a unique “Yi Shi Tong Yuan” brew incorporating pandan and chen pi, while CLS Coffee&Bar pairs its roasts with Hojicha Basque cheesecake.

Planning Your Brew Journey

Entry to the festival is free for the public. Coffee lovers seeking a premium experience can secure a VIP Pass (HK$328), which grants early access, three 80ml Japanese specialty pours, one local coffee, a collectible Japanese Mino ware tasting cup, and a bag of exclusive beans. A Tasting Pass (HK$178) offers a streamlined upgrade featuring the tasting cup and Oatly barista milk.

The festival signals a deepening connection between Hong Kong’s vibrant F&B landscape and Japan’s meticulous coffee craft. For AIRSIDE, it marks a strong step toward becoming a premier destination for elite culinary experiences in the revitalized Kai Tak district. With limited availability on exclusive blends and VIP sessions, enthusiasts are advised to secure their passes early and arrive prepared for a weekend of world-class brewing.
