Koh Samui: Fisherman’s Village Food Street

I didn’t expect a lot local food when planning my trip to Koh Samui. I’ve been here twice before (about 8-10 years ago) and back then it was all about edge-of-the-cliff restaurants, buying cheapy tshirts and drinking in Chaweng. Since then, I realised the view is pitch black if you’re having dinner, I never ended up wearing the Chang beer tshirts and I don’t really drink anymore. So this time we steered clear of Chaweng, except for the Tesco (likely a sign of aging…). 10 years ago, we toured around the whole island but it was generally uneventful outside of our hotel and Chaweng. But lots have changed on the island since… And one of my favourite newer spots is the “Walking Street” in Fisherman’s Village, Bo Phut, populated with stalls on Friday and Monday nights (6pm ish onwards). The line up of food and shopping stalls were endless – despite perseverance, I was exhausted and wanted to go back to the hotel by the time we realised we had only covered about 3/4 of …

The Grill, Grand Hyatt: Poolside Weekend Brunch

My most Google-d search term/phrase of 2015 has to be “Best Brunch in Hong Kong”, as this relaxing effort-less activity has become my go-to to-do on most weekends. The part where I search for a place to go, is not very effort-less however. The Grill, at Grand Hyatt, is one that often pops up in the lists of Top 10 brunches in Hong Kong but it never really appealed to me – largely because its name gives off a barbecue feast impression, which is not exactly what I crave first thing in the morning. But since I was staying at Grand Hyatt after a wedding, it seemed only obvious to give The Grill a shot. It definitely turned out to be as meaty as its name suggests, but thankfully they also had a lot of other great options. It’s highly recommended, if at least one of you happens to have a big appetite! Beautiful outdoor poolside seating The outdoor seating is beautiful, if not loveable. It’s set by the pool and the venue was perfect for the chilling-weekend-brunchy vibe I …

Banyan Tree Samui: Full review of Pool Villa, Spa and Facilities

I’ve been to Thailand five times in the past two years alone so there’s no doubt this is my favourite country to visit. The pad thai, Thai iced teas and water sports keep me coming back, but the only purpose of my trip to Koh Samui this time was to unwind. That’s exactly why we chose Banyan Tree, a high-end resort known to be perfect for relaxing and has their own top-notch spa service too. We spent most of our time hibernating in the resort (best idea!) and so I thought I’d do a detailed review to give you all an idea of what to expect – in terms of rooms, service, activities, spa and food – if you ever plan a similar luxurious retreat for yourself. Beautiful seaview and private beach We were greeted with the most beautiful seaview off a cliff at the hotel reception/lobby. The service was expectedly top-notch and maintained at all moments of our stay here. We’d always get what we wanted, including our own yoga mat in our room or …

#lollefood Monthly – November & December 2015

#lollefood is the tag I use on Instagram for all my recommended food items devoured in Hong Kong. Every month I consolidate some of the new food discoveries I’ve made in attempt to give you all a basis for brainstorming your next dinner or snack outing. Lots of new restaurants have opened up this November and December! I was also in Singapore for a short while and got to visit some lovely cafes like Curious Palette. I’m also currently enjoying a short but lovely resort life in Koh Samui – though I’m expecting to be too lazy to get out of my hotel room and explore food this time round! See the previous versions here. New Restaurants Le Garcon Saigon is one of the latest Vietnamese restaurants to join the diverse dining scene in Hong Kong, located near Star Street. They focus on the less mainstream dishes and not at all on beef pho. I loved their Banh Xeo and they also serve amazing desserts. Read the full review here. Tetsu is the newest Japanese tsukemen ramen shop …
