Happy New Year! It’s that time of the year (actually I might be a bit late) to reflect and look ahead… And to give you some inspiration and ideas to add variety to your 2016, here’s some of my best ideas for food, travel and life in general from 2015!
Hope everyone had an excellent long weekend and feels refreshed for a new week and new year.
Best Fine Dining Meal: Wagyu Takumi (Hong Kong)
Labelled as the “Best Meal I’ve Had“, the dinner at Wagyu Takumi was hands down the winner of my eventful year of devouring food and gaining 1-2kg despite upping my exercise game. But at HK$2000 per person, I’m eagerly waiting for bonus pay day to visit again!
Best Guilty Meal: Annie’s Burger (Nottingham, UK)
I’ve had a lot of burgers in 2015. With all the new burger shops opening up in Hong Kong, who hasn’t? But none in Hong Kong were as evil (no doubt delicious) as the ones from Annie’s Burger all the way in Nottingham, UK! With pages of burger choices, the pancakes and maple syrup bacon burger… served with curly fries, was one we could not say no to. This stuff should be strictly restricted to holidays though.
Best Discovery: Kimchi-anything
With the number of Korean fusion restaurants opening up this year, I’ve also discovered that Kimchi-anything tastes great… Which led me to create my own Kimchi grilled cheese and Kimchi carbonara at home. Both turned out to be excellent combinations! Check out the recipes to test it out yourselves.
Best Adventure: Sigirya in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was an exotic and adventurous place to explore in general; there was so much variety, ranging from city to safaris, beach to mountain top tea plantations. Sigirya was one of those landmarks which looked impressive in photos, but unexpectedly even more mesmerising in real life. Read more about it here.
Best Hotel: Banyan Tree Samui
The best hotels are always the ones you go to when you’re not being adventurous – that’s the only way you can enjoy the room, spa and pool facilities. Read more about this luxurious resort here.
Best Photo: Oysters from Freycinet Marine Farm
I love oysters and a photo showing it in abundance would easily become my favourite! These oysters from Tasmania were so fresh, cheap and delicious. See: Tasmania: Where to get the best fresh oysters?
Best Quote: Don’t ask what the meaning of life is. You define it.
Best Achievement: Strength. I couldn’t do one push up this time last year… Now I can do 8 in a set. Good enough for me!
Best Words for 2016: Create something.
