A Young Crowd’s Getaway in Phuket

If you’re not visiting the handful of well known luxury resorts as a couple or a family, Phuket can seem like an outdated holiday destination. As could Koh Samui.

Most would agree that Patong is way beyond a developed tourist area. Tourists may have once wanted to be close to the action and find a hotel near Patong beach, but the overwhelming number of foreigners and accompanying tourist traps has made this beach strip become a bit of a turn off. Even the less trodded Surin beach has almost been equally invaded by an unpleasant number of tourists.

I stayed at The Naka Phuket in 2014. Because it was secluded from the tourist action, it was amazing, beautiful and unforgettable – but only if you’re a couple looking for a lazy experience. On the other hand, it would’ve been an awkwardly boring experience with my friends.

Dream Phuket Hotel & Spa / Dream Beach Club

The newly opened Dream Phuket Hotel & Spa which is located in Cheong Tale (further north from Patong and Surin) became our hotel choice. Even if you don’t end up staying in this hotel, the neighbouring Dream Beach Club is a must visit for half a day!

The hotel was very reasonably priced and looked clean. With our budget, we had quite few choices and had to at least give up one thing: location. And despite the 30-40 minute drive away from Patong, the beautiful deserted nearby beach and hotel facilities were instrumental to how much we enjoyed our overall trip.

It was not only a getaway from Hong Kong, but also a getaway from touristy bustle of Patong.

Hotel: Two Bedroom Pool Villa

We may have been lucky to secure such a good deal, paying only HK$3700 per night for a two bedroom villa with a pool (perfect for 4-5 guests), because the hotel has only recently had its grand opening in February 2016. Well, the price was originally HK$4700 per night, but once you login to Hotels.com, they sometimes reveal a “secret price” for selected hotels, which I honestly couldn’t believe could be so much cheaper.

The villa was well-equipped: two king beds, two huge bathrooms and a living room – pretty spacious for a party of five. The design was modern and everything felt extremely clean. The kitchen also had a stove, an oven and a microwave. The bathrooms were nicely designed, but are only segregated from the bedroom by a sheer curtain. That means, it’s quite impractical to stay in this shared villa if you’re in a group of mixed sexes.

Hotel: Pool and Facilities

The hotel pool was jaw droppingly big and beautiful. It had a bar, loads of cabanas and submerged-in-the-pool sun tanning beds. As such, we were hardly bothered by our relatively underwhelming in-villa pool. I’d definitely suggest going for the cheaper individual pool-less rooms, as the common pool is so much nicer.

I loved the hotel breakfast too. It was a typical breakfast buffet, but they have a really nice outdoor pool-side area, with the perfect holiday vibe. I couldn’t stress more how delicious their pancakes were – I had two every single day of our visit here!

Dream Beach Club: Best Beach Club in Phuket

But the biggest highlight was the hotel’s beach club located about a 5 mins free shuttle bus away. After beach-club-hopping for one entire Saturday, this place was a clear winner. It’s the perfect spot for a young crowd.

Hotels guest get priority and don’t need to fulfil any minimum spending requirements to secure the huge sun-tanning/chilling beds – a huge plus for us! It got pretty crowded here on a Sunday afternoon and as hotel guests, we were able to skip the line at the door altogether.

Dream Beach Club: Excellent DJ & Vibes

The beach club has charming vibes and an excellent DJ. Though maybe not the best spot if you’re looking for a serene day. Many visitors were non-hotel guests and I’d definitely recommend a visit here, even if you don’t stay at the hotel.

Next to a Beautiful, Big and Under-discovered Beach

Plus, Dream Beach Club is located on Dream Beach, which is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve visited in all of Thailand (Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and the PhiPhi islands included!). The key reason why it was so beautiful is because it’s relatively under-discovered (at the moment). It’s very quiet and was dotted with only about 10 people in sight when we were there. This also meant that it was litter-free and the water was super clear.
