Limewood: Summer Afternoon Getaway at The Pulse

There’s so much to love about Hong Kong. The one thing I love most is how we have a world class financial centre with skyscrapers 100 floors tall, yet beaches, oceans and mountains are only a short ride away. You can kayak in the sea, hike to beautiful beaches, yet still have all the variety of restaurants and shops of a bustling city, that’s only 30-45 mins away. The Pulse is a strip of restaurants and shops by Repulse Bay beach and is possibly the best in between of nature and city in Hong Kong. Hardly 20 minutes away from Central/Admiralty, you can feel completely disconnected from corporate life just by sitting in one of these restaurants or cafes. Perfect Half Al-Fresco Vibes Limewood would likely be my top choice for the best vibes. It’s half al-fresco, yet I remember they had decent air-conditioning such that you won’t be sweating throughout your meal. Plus they have a good selection of cold food which is actually all that we ordered, and it was perfect for the summer months. Delicious …

Rhoda: The Latest Sai Ying Pun Hype Not to Miss

Few places generate as much hype as Rhoda has and then live up to it too. I’ll try not to be repetitive because there is already an abundance of reviews on this place – but that’s just the first piece of proof that it is one worthy of your restaurants-to-try list. Of course, with hype comes expectations and then larger room for disappointment. So in attempt to control some of that, I’d say, while the atmosphere is perfect, all our dishes delicious, I have heard mixed reviews on selected items – such as the chicken being too dry – though I can’t attest to that claim. It was Wednesday so naturally a drink was needed. I was just a tad disappointed that the cocktail list wasn’t pages long or feature some exotic creations. I guess there was something about the rustic cool decor led me to believe Rhoda would be that kind of place with amazing cocktails. I got the Whisky Smash (HK$120) which was refreshing and tasted good. But the focus here is definitely on the …

5 Things You Need to Know as a Foodie Travelling to Hanoi

1. It’s not all about food – Do take a trip to Sapa or Halong Bay Hanoi did not turn out to be the Bangkok of Vietnam, as I had expected. While we had some good meals, it’s difficult to come up with a fruitful list of must-try spots because there probably aren’t a lot of those… It’s not a city where you could get impressive local dishes whatever establishment or street stall you walk into. I think travelling out of Hanoi is a must for any tourist. Sapa is a 12 hour overnight train away from Hanoi. Located 1500m above sea level, the scenery takes you to a different world, even the climate differs significantly from Hanoi – it got to 10-ish degrees Celsius on a summer night. A diverse range of ethnic minority groups inhabit the town, with Hmong peoples being the majority. The experience was absolutely unparalleled. It was unique and so worth the long journey. Halong Bay is about 3.5 hours (bus ride) away from Hanoi and an overnight cruise trip in the …

Le Relais de L’Entrecote: Fuss-Free French Steak Frites

Before I found my number one steakhouse of choice in Hong Kong, Grand Hyatt Steakhouse, I compiled a list of Top Classic Steakhouses in Hong Kong, which I personally think captures most of the best quality steaks on offer in this city. But all the places listed were expensive ones, where you’d be spending potentially HK$1200 or even more per person. That’s not something we can all afford to do on a weekly or fortnightly basis, which is why Le Relais de L’Entrecote can easily become a regular steak spot for me. I wouldn’t call it a steakhouse because there is only one choice of dish on offer and you can’t choose your cut – they only serve sirloin. But at the bargain price of just HK$288, you’re getting a decently sized piece of meat which is cooked pretty perfectly, unlimited fries, and a salad as starters. Bread & Salad We started with some delicious French baguettes and a walnut salad. They were both good and a light way to kickstart our dinner. Steak Frites The …
