Themed treats featuring seals, sea lions, and otters will debut at two pop-up locations across the city
Hong Kong dessert lovers have a new reason to celebrate this summer. Popular bakery Forest Bread has launched an exclusive Ocean Animal Dessert Series, transforming charming marine creatures into intricately crafted sweets. The collection includes whole Japanese Lanwang egg puddings, fresh milk mochi, and Dubai chocolate bread shred pastries, available at two limited-time pop-up stores in August and September.
The centerpiece of the collection is the Otter Caramel Pudding Daifuku, a whimsical creation featuring a plump, three-dimensional otter design. Beneath the chewy mochi exterior lies an entire caramel-infused Lanwang egg pudding—a premium ingredient prized for its rich flavor and silky texture. The contrast between the soft, elastic rice dough and the smooth, custard-like filling delivers a layered eating experience. Food photographers will appreciate the dramatic “pull-apart” effect when the daifuku is sliced open, revealing the glossy pudding within.
Alongside the daifuku, the bakery has introduced marine animal mochi balls in three varieties, each hand-painted with unique facial expressions using edible chocolate pens. The offerings include:
- Sea lion (chocolate mochi): Filled with fragrant pistachio Dubai bread shreds
- Seal (black sesame mochi): Packed with aromatic sesame Dubai bread shreds for a nostalgic taste
- Sea dog (plain mochi): Stuffed with crunchy hazelnut Dubai bread shreds
Every ball is individually decorated, meaning no two share the same expression.
Another highlight is the Ocean Yogurt Cup, a visually striking dessert designed for interactive enjoyment. The base features butterfly pea flower-infused maple jelly in a vivid ocean blue, layered with thick Greek yogurt and house-made butter cookie crumbles. Fresh blueberries, lemon jelly, and lemon zest crown the top. Each cup comes with a small syringe filled with fresh lemon juice. When diners inject the citrus into the jelly, the blue seawater gradually transforms into a dreamy purple sunset hue—a chemical reaction that doubles as tabletop entertainment. The tangy, sweet flavor profile makes it an ideal refreshment for Hong Kong’s sweltering summer months.
Forest Bread’s limited-edition Ocean Animal Dessert Series will be available at two pop-up locations:
- Kwun Tong APM: 12:00–21:00 daily, from August 8 to October 8, at Shop UC-A2, High Zone, APM
- Central IFC City’super: 12:00–20:00 daily, from August 10 to August 18, at the entrance outside city’super, 1/F, Phase 1, IFC Mall
The bakery notes that quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis until sold out.
This launch reflects a broader trend among Hong Kong bakeries to combine novelty aesthetics with premium ingredients, catering to a market that values both visual appeal and culinary craftsmanship. For dessert enthusiasts seeking a memorable summer indulgence, this collection offers a rare opportunity to savor creativity and quality in every bite.
