Hong Kong Dim Sum Bargains: Restaurants Offer Deep Discounts Amid Rising Costs

HONG KONG – Two prominent Hong Kong Cantonese restaurant chains, Cuiyuan (翠園) and catering group Tao Heung’s Chung’s Kitchen (鍾廚) and Chung’s Food (鍾菜館), are rolling out significant, limited-time dim sum promotions, providing residents with attractive dining options amidst broader inflationary pressures. These deals, which include an eight-item fixed-price menu and a return to “throwback pricing” for individual pieces, represent a calculated move by the catering sector to boost traffic and offer consumer relief.

Cuiyuan Launches 46% Discount Dim Sum Set

Cuiyuan, a well-known chain in Hong Kong, has introduced a flash promotion featuring a comprehensive fixed-price dim sum set. Starting now and running through March 3, 2026, diners can enjoy an eight-course dim sum menu for as low as HK$131 per person. This price point reflects an approximate 46% discount off the believed standard price, offering substantial savings compared to the typical cost of individual dim sum baskets, such as the often pricey ha gao (crystal shrimp dumplings).

The promotional set, which is available via advance purchase on platforms like Klook, features a selection of classic Cantonese favourites. Key items included in the package are Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Crab Roe Siu Mai, Crispy Shredded Chicken Spring Rolls, and Steamed Barbecue Pork (Char Siu). The experience is structured as a 90-minute dining session.

The offer is valid across eight specific Cuiyuan branches located in key areas, including Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Tai Po, Yuen Long, and Wong Tai Sin. Customers must present the pre-purchased e-voucher at designated locations to redeem the set meal.

Tao Heung Restaurants Revive Ultra-Low Dim Sum Pricing

In a separate move to attract morning and lunch crowds, Tao Heung Group’s Chung’s Kitchen and Chung’s Food locations are offering a deep-value promotion that reintroduces prices reminiscent of earlier decades. These two chains, known for their popular Cantonese cuisine and bustling yam cha atmosphere, are featuring over 15 individual dim sum items priced between HK$7 and HK$9 each.

The “throwback pricing” aims to dramatically cut the cost of a typical dim sum meal. Items available for as low as HK$7 include classic comfort foods such as Teochow Rice Dumplings, XO Sauce Steamed Chicken Feet, and Savoury Taro Cakes with Preserved Meats. Other premium choices, including Abalone Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumplings, and Black Truffle Mushroom Buns, are available for HK$8 or HK$9.

Restaurant management noted that these heavily discounted selections are offered on a limited, daily quota basis, available until stock runs out. The promotion is currently applicable at six branches of Chung’s Kitchen and Chung’s Food located across Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, including locations in Fo Tan, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Causeway Bay.

These campaigns highlight a growing trend in Hong Kong’s fiercely competitive dining scene, where large catering groups are leveraging their scale to offer aggressive value promotions, directly challenging high operational costs and persistent consumer sensitivity to price increases. For residents, these flash sales provide a welcome opportunity to enjoy traditional Cantonese breakfast and lunch without the elevated expenses often associated with full-service dining. Securing these deals requires prompt action, as the limited-time nature of these offers means rapid uptake is expected among savvier Hong Kong diners.
