Hotel ICON’s Eighth Durian Festival Returns with 10 Fresh Varieties and Penang Street Food

Hong Kong’s durian devotees have a date with destiny this July and August, as Hotel ICON brings back its annual Malaysian Durian Festival for the eighth consecutive year. The 2026 edition spans eight sessions—four brunch and four dinner seatings—where guests can sample ten types of freshly opened Malaysian durians, enjoy seven made-to-order Penang street food stalls, and vie for prizes including hotel stay vouchers. The festival runs on July 12, July 26, August 1, and August 2 at the hotel’s Silverbox ballroom.

A Feast of Premium Durians

Each diner receives a curated platter of three different durian varieties, featuring the D197 Mao Shan Wang (Cat Mountain King) known for its rich, creamy texture; the D200 Black Thorn, often hailed as the king of durians; and the D13 Golden Bun, which carries buttery, nutty notes. Beyond the platter, guests can enjoy unlimited servings of seven seasonal Penang durians, including D88 Little Sweet, D163 Gourd, D24 Sultan, Johor Gold, Red Prawn, Old Tree, and XO. Skilled attendants open whole durians on-site, ensuring peak freshness.

Penang Street Food Comes to Hotel ICON

Seven tricycle-themed live cooking stations recreate the lively atmosphere of a Penang street market. Chefs whip up classics such as Penang prawn noodles, fruit rojak, laksa, five-spice pork rolls, and stir-fried kuay teow. Each guest also receives a portion of clay pot golden soup with durian and abalone and a durian coconut double-boiled soup, both infused with real durian pulp for an umami twist.

Sweet Endings and Lucky Draws

Over 20 durian-inspired desserts await, including made-to-order crêpes, durian coffee panna cotta, durian pandan rolls, and durian pudding. The seasonal Venchi durian gelato—smooth and intensely aromatic—is a must-try. Unlimited red and white wines, sparkling wine, chilled juices, and soft drinks are included.

The festival’s beloved host, “Durian Prince” Chef Danny, emcees every session and awards multiple prizes: two-night hotel stays in Penang, Hotel ICON accommodation vouchers, dining certificates at Michelin-recommended Yan Toh Heen, The Market buffet vouchers, GREEN afternoon tea sets, and more.

Pricing:

  • Adults: HK$898 (plus 10% service charge)
  • Children (3–11): HK$558 (plus 10% service charge)

Afternoon Tea Collaboration: The Market x Yen Chun Kee

The set features three premium durians—Black Thorn, Johor Gold, and Gourd—alongside savory and sweet items like abalone coconut durian soup, prawn durian laksa, Yen Chun Kee coconut pandan durian pineapple bun, and homemade coconut candy ice cream. Guests can add a Yen Chun Kee coconut coffee for an extra charge.
