HONG KONG — One of South Korea’s most coveted dessert brands, ABEBE Bakery, will open its first Hong Kong outpost in Tsim Sha Tsui in September 2026, bringing its signature cream-filled doughnuts and buns made with Jeju island ingredients to local sweet tooths. To celebrate, the bakery plans a two-day free giveaway of its bestselling chocolate and green tea cream doughnuts.
From Jeju Market Stall to Global Phenomenon
ABEBE Bakery began as a modest stall at Jeju’s Dongmun Market in late 2019. Its breakthrough came from reimagining classic doughnuts and cream buns using locally sourced Jeju produce—such as hallabong citrus, green tea, and fresh milk—resulting in exceptionally rich fillings. The concept quickly gained a cult following, leading to a three-story flagship on Jeju Island.
By 2023, ABEBE had expanded to Seoul, where it was named one of the “top three doughnut shops” in the capital. The brand then crossed into Japan in 2024, opening locations in Tokyo and Shin-Okubo, and launched a café concept, ABEBE Cafe Mini, in Korea.
Now, ABEBE Bakery is setting its sights on Hong Kong, with soft-opening scheduled for September 13, 2026, at a ground-floor shop on Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
What to Expect on the Menu
ABEBE’s Hong Kong menu will mirror its most popular Korean offerings, centred on nine varieties of cream-filled doughnuts. Each doughnut is named after a Jeju location or ingredient—such as the chocolate cream and Jeju green tea cream flavours. The dough itself is light and airy, while the fillings are notably generous.
Beyond doughnuts, the bakery will serve its signature cream buns, which feature a hidden layer of chewy Korean rice cake (tteok) inside the cream, creating a contrasting texture that fans describe as “soft on the outside, springy within.”
Drinks will also debut locally, including:
- Vanilla seed latte
- Jeju Cheonhyang cold brew
- Hallabong citrus cream cold brew
- Jeju matcha latte
- Matcha citrus cream milk
All beverages incorporate ingredients sourced directly from Jeju, aiming to deliver an authentic taste of the island.
Opening Festivities: Free Doughnuts for Two Days
To mark the debut, ABEBE Bakery will host a limited-time giveaway on September 19 and 20, 2026—the Saturday and Sunday following the soft opening. From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM each day, the shop will hand out free doughnuts, including chocolate cream and Jeju green tea cream varieties.
Each person may receive one doughnut, and supplies are limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Given the brand’s popularity in Korea and Japan, long queues are expected.

A Growing Appetite for Korean Bakeries

The brand’s rapid rise—from a market stall to an international chain in less than seven years—underscores how innovative use of regional ingredients can build a loyal global following.
