JW Marriott Hosts Green Cooking Finals: Vote for Innovative Low-Carbon Dishes

From November 2 to 21, 2026, the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong will transform its The Lounge buffet dinner into a lively showcase for sustainable gastronomy, hosting the finals of the Green Cooking competition. Organized by the Chinese Women Chefs Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong International Culinary Exchange Association, this event invites diners to sample nine creative low-carbon dishes and vote for their favorite, with winners competing for a HKD 36,000 prize package.

About the Competition
The Green Cooking competition was designed to promote electric cooking techniques and the use of locally sourced ingredients, reducing environmental impact. After an initial round, nine finalists from three categories—Junior Cooks, Amateur Cooks, and Professional Chefs—will present their dishes at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong’s The Lounge.

The Finalist Dishes
Each category focuses on specific proteins. Junior Cooks (ages 16-22) use chicken or duck, with dishes like Red Wine Mushroom Wellington Duck and Festive Chicken with Glutinous Rice. Amateur Cooks (23 and above) work with beef or pork, creating entries such as Golden Imperial Palace and Amber Glass Meat. Professional Chefs (23+ with at least two years of experience) focus on fish or shrimp, featuring items like Old Pickled Cabbage Knock Knock Shrimp and Twilight Silver Cod with Golden Shrimp. These dishes emphasize flavor, creativity, and sustainability.

How to Participate
Diners can enjoy these eco-friendly creations as part of The Lounge’s buffet dinner, which also includes other delights like ice seafood, Peking duck, and teppanyaki abalone. Each guest can cast a vote for the best low-carbon dish, contributing to the competition’s outcome. The buffet dinner is available from 7 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and Saturdays, with prices starting at HKD 598 per adult on Monday-Thursday and HKD 638 per adult on Friday-Saturday. Children aged 3-12 eat at a reduced rate. Remember to book in advance as spaces are limited.

Broader Impact on Sustainable Dining
This event reflects a growing trend in Hong Kong towards sustainable dining, highlighting the importance of using local ingredients and energy-efficient cooking methods. By involving the public in the voting process, it educates diners about low-carbon practices and encourages mindful eating. The competition also supports local suppliers and the culinary community, fostering a more sustainable food culture.
