Michelin-Recognized Little Napoli Brings Authentic Neapolitan Flavors to Wan Chai

Hong Kong’s culinary landscape welcomes back a familiar favorite as Little Napoli officially opens its doors at a new location in Wan Chai. Following its successful tenure in Happy Valley since 2021, the Michelin-recommended establishment temporarily closed its original site last October, leaving loyal patrons eager for its return. On December 10, the restaurant unveiled its expanded space, combining traditional Neapolitan craftsmanship with an updated menu that introduces several Mediterranean-inspired additions to the city’s vibrant dining scene.

To recreate the soul of Southern Italy, Chef-owner Gavino Pilo, a native of Naples, oversaw every detail of the new interior. The restaurant features vintage-style floor tiles imported directly from Italy, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a rustic Napolitan neighborhood eatery. Central to the operation is the signature stone oven, also imported from Naples, which maintains a blistering temperature of 400 degrees Celsius to ensure the dough achieves its characteristic charred, “leopard-spotted” crust and soft, airy center.

Discover the New “Wallet Pizza” Series

The Wan Chai opening marks the debut of the Pizza Portafoglio, or “Wallet Pizza.” Designed for the modern urbanite, this street-food classic is folded into a handheld shape, making it an ideal choice for high-quality takeaway. Beyond the traditional Margherita, the series includes:

  • Contadina: A rustic blend of seasonal Mediterranean ingredients.
  • Zingara: A savory delight heavily featuring premium Parma ham, designed specifically for meat lovers.
  • Dondiego: Part of the expanded Pizza Fritta (fried pizza) range, this long-format pocket is surprisingly light and crisp without the greasiness typically associated with deep-fried dough.

Authenticity in Every Bite

Chef Pilo continues to uphold strict standards, sourcing premium ingredients from his hometown to maintain the integrity of his award-winning recipes. For those new to authentic Neapolitan pizza, the restaurant provides a “user guide” for their takeaway boxes. Because the center of a genuine Neapolitan pizza is exceptionally thin—only a few millimeters thick—the traditional way to enjoy it is to cut it into quarters and fold each slice. This technique preserves the structural integrity of the toppings and ensures the distinct aroma of the wheat flour is front and center.

Beyond the Crust: Neapolitan Snacks

The expanded menu also shines a light on Southern Italian appetizers. A standout is the Melanzane in Carrozza, a layered eggplant dish that has surprised early diners with its rich, almost fish-like texture. These snacks offer a diverse entry point for diners looking to experience the full breadth of Naples’ fried food culture alongside their world-class pizzas.

The relocation of Little Napoli to Wan Chai represents more than just a new address; it is a commitment to preserving a specific culinary heritage while adapting to the fast-paced lifestyle of Hong Kong Island. As the brand settles into its larger home, it continues to serve as a benchmark for authentic Italian craftsmanship in the heart of the city.
