Michelin-Recognized Little Napoli Relaunches in Wan Chai with Expanded Menu

Acclaimed Neapolitan pizzeria Little Napoli has officially reopened its doors in Wan Chai, marking a significant return for the Michelin-listed establishment. Following the closure of its popular Happy Valley outpost in October, the restaurant has resumed operations at a new address as of December 10, bringing authentic Italian flavors to a broader audience in a revitalized setting.

A New Chapter for a Fan Favorite

Since its debut in 2021, Little Napoli has cultivated a loyal following under the guidance of owner and Chef Gavino Pilo. A native of Naples, Pilo has steadfastly championed traditional techniques, utilizing imported stone ovens fired to 400 degrees Celsius. This high-heat method produces the signature crust that defines Neapolitan pizza: a delicate balance of a crisp exterior and a soft, airy interior.

The transition to Wan Chai represents more than just a change of address. The new venue features an expanded dining area designed to evoke the rustic charm of Southern Italy. Custom-ordered vintage-style floor tiles transport diners straight to the streets of Naples, offering an immersive atmosphere that complements the culinary experience.

Introducing the “Wallet Pizza” Concept

In conjunction with the relocation, the kitchen has launched an innovative lineup tailored for the modern diner. The standout addition is the Pizza Portafoglio series, also known as “Wallet Pizza.” Designed for convenience without sacrificing quality, these pizzas are folded into a wallet shape, making them ideal for takeaway or street-style eating.

The Wallet Pizza menu features the classic Margherita, folded to lock in flavor, alongside two new creations:

  • Contadina: A rustic option incorporating traditional ingredients.
  • Zingara: A meat-heavy variant topped with generous portions of Parma ham, a sure draw for carnivorous diners.

Fried Delights and Traditional Snacks

Beyond the pizza oven, Little Napoli has expanded its offerings to include Pizza Fritta (fried pizza). The Dondiego is a highlight; originally oblong, it is served halved. Contrary to expectations for fried food, it maintains a light texture without excess oil, focusing on savory fillings.

The appetizer menu has also grown to include distinct Neapolitan snacks. The Melanzane in Carrozza is particularly noteworthy. This eggplant-based dish surprises diners with a texture often mistaken for fish, featuring layers of complex flavors and a satisfying bite.

Mastering the Art of Consumption

To enhance the dining experience, the restaurant emphasizes the proper consumption of Neapolitan pizza. Historically a street food, authentic Neapolitan pizza centers are soft and thin. To prevent toppings from sliding off, diners are encouraged to cut the pizza into quarters and fold the slices. This method ensures the structural integrity of the pizza, allowing for a mess-free enjoyment of the dough’s wheat aroma and rich toppings.

With its combination of a strategic new location, thoughtful interior design, and a menu that respects tradition while embracing innovation, Little Napoli is poised to become a staple of the Wan Chai dining scene. Reservations are recommended for those eager to experience the new chapter of this celebrated Italian kitchen.
