Starbucks Integrates Fine Coffee and Antiquity at New West Kowloon Museum Venue

Starbucks has officially launched a new, culturally inspired concept store within the esteemed Hong Kong Palace Museum at the West Kowloon Cultural District, seamlessly blending premium coffee experiences with traditional Chinese and global artistic philosophies. This unique venue distinguishes itself through collaborations with three influential local artists, a dedicated menu and product line inspired by the museum’s “Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition,” and exclusive, museum-themed merchandise, establishing a new benchmark for experiential retail in Hong Kong’s premier cultural landmark.

A Sanctuary Blending Heritage and Coffee Culture

The store’s design centers on a concept of “Serene Sanctuary,” integrating local artistic contributions and traditional aesthetic principles to offer visitors a contemplative space amid their museum exploration. The ambient setting encourages relaxation and an appreciation of refined artistry, setting it apart from standard retail outlets.

The artistic integrity of the store is immediately evident. Above the main entrance, a striking “Starbucks” plaque, penned by local calligrapher Wong Suen-yau, harmoniously merges classical Chinese calligraphy with modern design. Inside, a wall mural by artist Wai She-nga, crafted using natural mineral and earth pigments, provides a detailed depiction of the coffee plant’s life cycle. Directly opposite the counter, ceramic artist Justin Wong Chun-yin’s porcelain sculpture reinterprets the beauty of the coffee plant through the lens of Yunnan landscapes and Chinese philosophical aesthetics.

Exclusive Menu Lines Draw Global Inspiration

The concept store has introduced several limited-edition food and beverage offerings that draw inspiration from both classical Chinese motifs and the current Ancient Egyptian Civilization exhibition.

Beverages take a cue from the Chinese poetic imagery of plum blossoms:

  • Plum Blossom Oolong Tea / Oolong Tea Tonic (with Froth): Featuring a base of sweet-and-sour plum jam and whole preserved plums, layered with a vanilla-flavored foam. Customers can choose an Oolong tea base or a structured coffee base. The iced variations are optionally topped with tonic water for added invigoration.
  • Turmeric Oat Milk Coffee (Hot): This current offering combines the smooth texture of oat milk and the subtle spice of turmeric with Starbucks’ signature espresso for a distinct, warming flavor profile.

Ancient Egyptian Themed Culinary Delights: Aligned with the museum’s feature exhibition, the store offers playful, thematic snacks:

  • Pyramid Cake with Pistachio Cream: A golden, geometrically shaped cake encasing a rich pistachio filling, exquisitely finished with gold leaf for a mysterious, regal appearance.
  • Mummy Sausage Roll: A whimsical take on a savory pastry, featuring layered puff pastry wrapped around a sausage, presented as a “mummy” with chocolate eyes peaking out.

These limited-time menu items are available starting January 28, 2026, with the unique plum blossom drinks becoming available from the same date.

Collectible Merchandise Connects Past and Present

Beyond the bespoke menu, the store features two lines of exclusive merchandise, perfect for collectors and museum attendees seeking culturally valuable souvenirs:

  • Hong Kong Palace Museum Ancient Egyptian Series (Available February 10, 2026): This collection includes a 16oz and 12oz tumbler, luggage tag, passport holder, reusable shopping bag, 3oz coffee cup set, and badge set.
  • Hong Kong Palace Museum Palace Series (Available January 28, 2026): Inspired by Ming and Qing dynasty royal court artifacts, this series features a 16oz coffee cup (in charcoal grey/jade color), a badge set, and a bookmark set.

Some general Starbucks locations across Hong Kong and Macau will stock select items from the collections later in February, but certain products remain exclusively available at the Hong Kong Palace Museum location.

Enhanced Customer Experience and Interactive Learning

The new Starbucks store also pioneers personalized interaction and coffee education. It is the first Starbucks in Hong Kong to offer an on-site engraving service, allowing customers who purchase designated tumblers to personalize their merchandise with names or designs—an offer running free-of-charge until February 28, 2026.

Moreover, the venue hosts engaging coffee micro-experiences, featuring expert baristas leading demonstrations in pour-over techniques, latte art, and coffee tasting. A unique added amenity allows visitors to collect stamps, using a traditional imperial seal design, on a special Hong Kong Palace Museum postcard. Completing the set unlocks a distinctive cultural postcard featuring a Starbucks Bear in traditional attire and the museum’s iconic architecture, providing a memorable, immersive souvenir of their visit.
