HONG KONG – Starbucks has unveiled a new, highly specialized concept store within the renowned Hong Kong Palace Museum at the West Kowloon Cultural District, successfully marrying the global coffee chain’s specialty beverage offerings with traditional Chinese art philosophy and localized cultural experiences. The new location aims to provide visitors with a serene retreat, integrating custom artwork featuring three local Hong Kong artists, an array of exclusive, museum-themed food and merchandise collections, and interactive coffee workshops focused on blending modern coffee culture with ancient Chinese aesthetics.
A Sanctuary of Serenity and Culture
The design ethos for the new Starbucks concept store centers on creating a “tranquil realm.” This vision integrates harmoniously with the museum’s commitment to showcasing historical and cultural artifacts. Local artistic contributions are prominent, immediately apparent with a custom “Starbucks” plaque gracing the main entrance, created by renowned calligrapher Wong Syn-yau, blending traditional Chinese script with contemporary design sensibility.
Inside, the walls feature intricate mineral pigment paintings by artist Ng Sheh-nga, who utilized natural earth colors to depict the lifecycle of the coffee plant, offering a subtle nod to nature’s artistry. Opposite the ordering counter, visitors encounter a striking ceramic sculpture by artist Wong Chun-yin, which reinterprets the beauty of coffee plants through the lens of Yunnan’s natural landscapes and Chinese philosophical aesthetics.
Exclusive Menu Captures Ancient Civilizations
In a unique collaboration reflecting the museum’s current exhibition schedule, the concept store is offering limited-edition food and beverage items tied not only to Chinese heritage but also to the Ancient Egypt Civilization Exhibition.
The exclusive beverage collection, available starting January 28, 2026, draws inspiration from the imagery of plum blossoms—a symbol of perseverance in Chinese culture. Plum Blossom Fusion Drinks feature a base of tart plum jam and whole preserved green plums, topped with vanilla-flavored foam. Customers can choose between an Oolong Tea or customizable espresso base, with an optional refreshing tonic water addition for iced versions.
The food items embrace the Egyptian theme with playful and innovative creations:
- Pyramid Cake with Pistachio Cream: A golden, pyramid-shaped dessert filled with rich pistachio cream and adorned with gold leaf.
- Mummy Sausage Roll: A savory pastry with layers of flaky crust wrapping a sausage, whimsically designed to resemble a mummy with chocolate “eyes.”
- Turmeric Oat Milk Coffee (Hot): Currently available, this drink combines the subtle spice of turmeric with smooth oat milk and Starbucks’ signature espresso.
Collectible Merchandise and Personalized Experiences
The store introduces two distinct lines of exclusive merchandise. The first is the Hong Kong Palace Museum Series, featuring items like coffee mugs, pin sets, and bookmark sets inspired by the Ming and Qing dynasty collections held at the museum, available from January 28, 2026. The second is the Ancient Egypt Civilization Series, which includes travel accessories, tumblers, and a collectible three-ounce coffee cup set, launching progressively from February 10, 2026. Note that while some items will be available at other Starbucks branches later in February, numerous products remain unique to the Palace Museum location.
Furthermore, this store marks the debut of Starbucks’ in-store personalization service in Hong Kong. For a limited time until February 28, customers can receive complimentary laser engraving of names or designs on selected purchased tumblers.
Visitors can also deepen their knowledge through customizable “Coffee Micro-Experiences,” including espresso demonstrations, pour-over classes, and tasting sessions led by professional baristas. For a final cultural touch, guests can collect distinctive, jade-seal-style stamps on limited-edition Hong Kong Palace Museum postcards. Collecting all required stamps unlocks a special postcard featuring the museum’s architecture and a Starbucks Bear dressed in traditional attire, adding a personalized element to the cultural visit.
This new Starbucks location elevates the traditional museum gift shop experience, positioning itself not merely as a coffee stop but as an integral, immersive cultural destination within one of Hong Kong’s premier cultural landmarks.
