Fujiyama 55: Japanese Sea Urchin Tsukemen

Ever since 三田製麵所 Tsukemen Mitaseimenjo and Tetsu opened up in Causeway Bay, I’ve been hooked onto Japanese tsukemen noodles. But what is tsukemen? Unlike the more prevalent type of soup ramen, Japanese tsukemen noodles are much thicker and are not served in a soup broth. Instead, a smaller bowl of thick broth is served on the side, which is usually extremely dense and flavourful. You’re meant to pick up a few strands of the noodles then dip it in the sauce before slurping. 8 New Restaurants for Weekday Lunch Dates

It was January 2015 when I came up with a list of 10 restaurants in Central for lunch dates – you know, for when someone is counting on you to make a decision on where to go for that team lunch or catch up. But the Hong Kong dining scene evolves quickly (i.e. restaurants frequently close) and people get bored easily – so here are some of my latest suggestions. Momojein: Creative Take on Korean Food (Lunch & Dinner)

Korean fusion or ‘modern Korean’ is no new trend. It was super hit about 1.5 years ago – that’s when I first tried Italian-Korean restaurant, Moyo – but the hype around kimchi-everything has definitely tapered off. Under Vacuum: Sous Vide Steak Sandwich under HK$50

Since 5 Great Asian Lunch Spots in Tsim Sha Tsui for under HK$100, I haven’t really found many places which had really good ‘deals’. But I think this newly discovered kiosk in TST east comes pretty close. You can get a decent meal here for under HK$50 and considering it includes steak, that’s gotta be a pretty good deal. The downside is that it’s a kiosk after all and they only do takeaway orders. I sat in the park benches nearby, which was quite pleasant but I can imagine it getting too hot and humid for that very soon. Plat du Jour, Pacific Place: Casual French Bistro and Afternoon Teas

Swire has opened a second Plat du Jour in Pacific Place (replacing the Spanish restaurant Zelos) and this casual French bistro is exactly what this upscale mall is missing: simple and affordable food made with good quality ingredients. It’s no wonder it’s already quickly become popular – I tried making a booking twice but they were full! To be fair, I attempted the reservation on the same day. I enjoyed their first branch in Quarry Bay very much, but the new one is much more location-friendly. Maybe that, along with the fact that they serve Afternoon Tea here, are the reasons I enjoyed it even more this time. Lunch/Dinner They offer the same lunch and dinner set menu for only HK$235/275 for two/three courses. It’s a price that’s hard to beat especially if you’re here for dinner.
