Popsy Modern Kitchen: A Quirky Creative Dining Experience

The first time I visited Popsy Modern Kitchen was for brunch and I remember…. The food was alright – I ordered lamb chops. But with so many different meals lined up each week, you have to be even better than ‘good’ in Hong Kong. When I finally returned to try out their British themed ‘Mockingbird Experience’ menu (book here) designed in collaboration with Feedme Guru, the meal was a completely different story. Intrigued by the drastic improvement, I then heard that they had overhauled their entire kitchen team only 1-2 months ago! Table: Killer Lobster Bisque and Depurated Seafood

Seafood restaurants have always been a thing in my family – almost all of us are in love with every single type of seafood. So we used to go regularly to Sing Kee in Sai Kung, our favourite restaurant for a lobster feast. But since its quality of service rapidly deteriorated, I have been itching to find another place for epic seafood meals. Table is not a new restaurant but because it’s tucked into the 8th floor of The Pemberton in Sheung Wan, it has definitely gone unnoticed for longer than it should’ve been. They specialise in depurated seafood. This means they take imported seafood and place them in clean water (in Hong Kong), to get rid of impurities. For the regular seafood-loving person, the magic of depuration is most evident in the oysters. But to say Table only focuses on depurated seafood would be selling it short, because the general execution of food also lives up to very high standards here. Aberdeen Street Social: A Simple Satisfying Set Menu (8-31 Aug 2016)

I’ve heard many good things about Aberdeen Street Social. I knew it was a perfect spot for after work cocktails, especially given its casual relaxing vibes within PMQ, which kind of takes you away from office-building-vibes. Why 50: New Favourite Coffee Shop in Sheung Wan

Some Friday lunch times, I feel like exploring new places and cafes are my favourite things to discover. Why 50 quickly came to mind because I had seen it on the Foodie website and this new coffee shop discovery phone app, Kawa, also recommended it. It’s located in Sheung Wan, which turned out to be a great location because the vibe was much more chilled out (than the unpleasantly buzzing cafes in Central) and I could enjoy a 15-20 minute walk there from my office. Try This: Mentaiko Pasta for Lunch at Tabibito

I came here for dinner once and absolutely loved all the dishes we ordered, especially the Lobster Toastie. Given that dinners here can cost about HK$500 per person, coming here for lunch is one way you can taste their delicious Japanese fusion dishes on a more wallet-friendly budget. Of course, the menu is very different though. Lobster Toastie – Special item served during dinner I actually fell in love with mentaiko pasta at Baby Cafe in iSQUARE (now closed), which was featured in Fusion pastas that actually taste amazing. After being thoroughly impressed by Tabibito’s food during dinner one time, their mentaiko pasta definitely met my high expectations of being creamy, tasty and with a good amount of ‘crunch’ from the roe. It’s HK$80 for a lunch set with miso soup and they have a few other options on their menu too. 8 best lemon tarts in Hong Kong

Over half a year ago, I unintentionally started a quest for the best lemon tart (see #questforperfectlemontart on Instagram) and came up with my favourite options in 5 best lemon tarts in Hong Kong. I also extended the quest home and came up with a pretty decent recipe after several attempts. As the quest continues, I’ve encountered a handful more of very unforgettable lemon tarts that are definitely worth a try. Here’s my latest list of favourites. 1. Cedele Cedele retains the top spot for making the most perfect lemon tart I’ve had in Hong Kong! The lemon curd has an extremely smooth and soft texture, while having a spot-on balanced taste between sweet and sour. The tart crust also tastes good, though is a tad stiff and hard. On return visits, the lemon tart still tastes amazing, though the presentation had sometimes been subpar. 4 best cappuccinos in Hong Kong

When you’ve been having cappuccino everyday for the past years of working, Starbucks gets a little boring and mediocre. I usually switch between Coffee of the Day (the bargain option), Cappuccino and Ristretto Bianco (a stronger version of cappuccino to put it unprofessionally). If even these options are getting old, treat yourself to something better. Here are four places that make my favourite cappuccino. 1. Fuel for strong coffee I hate Fuel for being so expensive; they charge HK$48 for cappuccino and it’s not that big either (probably smaller than Starbucks’ tall size). But there’s a reason why they’re still so busy anyway. They probably do the best coffee I’ve had in Hong Kong – their coffee is strong, distinct and perhaps edging towards a hint of sourness. Plus, the taste is always consistent. Fuel is located in the basement level of Landmark and P3 of IFC (both in Central). Cappuccino costs HK$48. 2. 18 grams for balanced coffee 18 grams is probably my second favourite. The coffee taste in their cappuccino is just about sufficiently strong, though much …
