THE SOUTHSIDE Mall Brings 40 Restaurants to Wong Chuk Hang, Ending Food Desert Era

The long-awaited THE SOUTHSIDE mall has officially opened at Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, introducing nearly 40 dining venues across its five floors. This pet-friendly complex, housing 130 shops, transforms the area from a former food desert into a culinary destination, offering everything from Michelin-starred ramen to Bib Gourmand Vietnamese fare.

Diverse International Dining Lineup

Vietnamese staple Brass Spoon, a Bib Gourmand recipient for eight consecutive years, serves pho with broth simmered daily for over 12 hours using 100 jin of beef bones and tendons. Customers can select doneness levels for their American Angus beef. Japanese ramen lovers can visit 金色不如帰, a Tokyo-based shop that has earned a Michelin star for five years, which features a clam broth made with 60 jin of clams, pork bones, and fish, paired with Hokkaido wheat noodles.

Western cuisine is represented by Chef’s Cuts, known for dry-aged Black Angus ribeye and seafood platters with Boston lobster and Hokkaido scallops. Thai food enthusiasts can dine at Bamboo Thai, which features murals by a Japanese artist and offers dishes like volcanic pork ribs, along with a weekday promotion granting a free coconut for dinner orders. Taiwanese chain 段純貞 uses 23 Chinese herbs and American beef shank in its broth, served with wide or thin noodles.

Coffee Culture and Light Meals

Coffee lovers have options such as NOC Coffee Co., the first branch to introduce ice cream, and Stain+, a 1,100-square-foot concept store that rotates coffee beans seasonally. For health-conscious diners, Meet Met Met offers dishes like Japanese scallop with coconut cauliflower rice. Several cafes and restaurants are pet-friendly, accommodating visitors with animals.

Additional Highlights and Accessibility

Other notable venues include Korean barbecue at 山洞食堂, with cave-like decor; Italian eatery Ombra offering a HK$148 lunch set; and Southeast Asian fusion spot MUSEe with daily cocktail buy-one-get-one-free deals. Chinese restaurant 王子飯店 serves limited-batch roast goose and Iberico pork char siu.

The mall connects directly to Wong Chuk Hang MTR Exit B and features a 24-hour pedestrian passage to nearby bus and minibus stops. This opening addresses a longstanding gap in dining infrastructure for local residents and office workers, while drawing food enthusiasts from across the city. As more tenants are expected to join, THE SOUTHSIDE is poised to become a key dining hub in Hong Kong’s southern district.
